Small Boats Development Camp

The Small Boats Development Camp will prepare athletes who are not yet race-ready, accelerating their development to build the confidence and skills needed to compete in new boat categories during the fall season.

WHO IS THIS CAMP FOR?

The camp is open to rising 9th graders and high school rowers looking to refine their skills and prepare for the upcoming rowing season. Spots are limited to 36 athletes.

"I can't believe the progress I made in just two weeks at the DUC small boat camp. Not only did I learn new techniques, but the flip test gave me a sense of safety and preparedness on the water that I didn't have before."

– Sarah, Rising 9th Grader

WHAT TO EXPECT

With a low 8-to-1 athlete-to-coach ratio, every participant will receive individualized attention and personalized coaching. During this camp, rowers will:

  • Learn to steer with toe-steering.

  • Build confidence in handling small boats.

  • Practice and operate efficiently in a training setting.

  • Complete race pieces to develop competitive readiness.

  • Perform a flip test to demonstrate their ability to safely re-enter their boat.

On the last day of camp, rowers will be tested in a race setting to put all their newfound skills to the test. They will be given a mock race day environment to launch on time, get to the starting line with enough readiness, get aligned, race efficiently, and manage equipment, followed by an awards ceremony.
