Performance Academy

Summer Training & Development Camp

The DUC Performance Academy is a six-week summer training and development program for experienced rowers who want to return to the fall season fitter, technically sharper, and mentally refreshed.

When: June 22 – July 31

This is not a racing camp.
This is where athletes build the foundation for fall success.

Build fitness. Sharpen skill. Be ready for the fall.

Who This Program Is For

  • U17, U19, and U23 athletes

  • U23 athletes must be currently enrolled in an NCAA, IRA, or collegiate club program

  • Athletes with prior rowing experience

  • Athletes who want serious, structured summer training

Why the DUC Performance Academy

Collegiate coaches consistently emphasize the same summer priorities:

Fitness. Technical efficiency. Sustainable training habits.

The DUC Performance Academy is built around these principles.

Athletes focus on:

  • Aerobic base and endurance development

  • Small-boat technical mastery

  • Erg score progression

  • Consistent, structured training

  • A competitive and supportive team environment

Our goal: Athletes arrive in the fall prepared to perform from day one.

Daily Training Structure

Morning – Small Boat Development

Time: 6:00–7:30 AM or 7:30–9:00 AM *attend one of the two sessions

Athletes row in small boats (singles, doubles, pairs, fours, quads) to develop:

  • Balance and boat feel

  • Stroke efficiency

  • Technical consistency

  • Confidence in small boats

Small boats accelerate learning and build transferable skill that shows up in all boat classes.

Afternoon – Fitness & Engine Building

Time: 5:00–7:00 PM

Afternoon sessions focus on:

  • Aerobic conditioning

  • Erg training

  • Strength and general fitness

  • Long-term engine development

Training is structured, progressive, and team-driven.

Flexible Attendance. Clear Standards.

Athletes may register for multiple options

  • Morning sessions only

  • Afternoon sessions only

  • Both morning and afternoon

All athletes are expected to demonstrate:

  • Commitment to improvement

  • Respect for teammates and coaches

  • Consistent effort

  • Positive attitude

  • Focus on long-term development

Why No Summer Racing?

Removing summer racing allows athletes to:

  • Build deeper aerobic fitness

  • Keep rates lower focus on power per stroke

  • Reduce burnout and injury risk

  • Spend more time on technical development without rushing the rates up

  • Train consistently without disruption of selection

  • USRowing Rowfest Regatta is too close to Youth Nationals, IRA, NCAA

This mirrors best practices used by collegiate and high-performance programs.

Summer is for building.
Fall is for racing.

How Our Pricing Compares

Many nationally recognized summer rowing camps are residential and travel-heavy, often costing $5,000–$8,000+ for a few weeks. A large portion of that cost covers housing, meals, transportation, and racing logistics.

The DUC Performance Academy is intentionally different.

Families invest directly in coaching, training structure, and athlete development — not travel or housing.

✔ Experienced, accountable coaching
✔ Small-boat technical development
